The Toe Notch Plate

Nail it from the back so you won't have a crack!

The toe notch plate attaches to your router to create a groove so you can quickly and easily attach a face frame with a nail or staple gun without leaving any blemishes on the face frame.

Using the Toe Notch Plate

Attaching the Plate to Your Router

Each Toe Notch Plate is designed to fit multiple routers. You will only use two screws to install the plate, although there are four holes. The other holes are for other routers.

  • One plate fits the Porter Cable, Bosch, Rigid and Ryobi Routers.
  • The other plate fits the Makita, Dewalt, and the Rocky 30 Routers.

To install the Toe Notch plate you will remove the ¼” plastic piece from the base. Save the screws and use two of them to install the Toe Notch plate back onto the router base. Make sure to center the large hole in the Toe Notch plate with the router bit. Rotate the Toe Notch plate until two of the screw holes line up. Install and tighten the screws.

Which Bit?

Typically, you will use a ¾” router or mortise bit, but you can also use a dovetail bit. A larger or smaller bit can be used which will move the notch position closer or farther away from the edge of the plywood.

Join the Wood

Start off with 7/8” brads. You can use longer nails (up to about 1.25”), but you may have to hold the nail gun at a compound angle to keep them from coming out. You may also use narrow crown staples.  If the nails or staples are damaging the plywood on the inside, adjust the router bit to make the toe notch deeper.
